WFR has an array of standardized and specialized wear test rigs including Dry Sand Rubber Wheel, Wet Sand Rubber Wheel, Pin on Disk, Friction Tester, Scratch Tester, Calo Tester, Tabor Tester, Crossed Cylinder, Falex Block on Ring, Amsler and a Casing Wear Tester. The machines are used both following ASTM standardized procedures and recommended practices and also customized to simulate particular applications.
Some wear problems benefit from a more holistic approach of failure analysis, standardized wear testing, more focused wear simulation, comparative field wear testing and final material recommendations or a combination of all these activities. WFR has the resources to design, run, consult and/or manage these types of complete wear investigations.
Analyses of failed components is an important step in minimizing or controlling a wear problem. A thorough and detailed description of the wear mechanisms that are present on a worn part is critical for prescribing remedial steps to optimize the wear life of a given part.
